Expert Analysis
A race which revolved around the long-odds-on Royal Infantry, and his eventual underperformance leaves the form looking substandard for the grade, the winner only bordering on useful.
The field was soon strung out, but the pace set by Peacenik was fair at best and he was rather left to his own devices, the on-screen sectionals for the final 4f of 58.59s on soft ground coming out at a 102.1% finishing speed.
DEDICATED HERO (h132 here, 125 previously) improved again and is bordering on useful, though somewhat flattered by winning what turned out to be a weak Grade 2. He raced prominently but was pushed along and tapped for toe before 3 out, still only fourth when switched at the next then rallied under pressure despite tending to edge left to lead just after the last, holding on thereafter despite his jockey losing his whip. A return to 20f seems likely sooner rather than later.
CLOONAINRA (h124 here and previously) had solid handicap form in Ireland and ran to a similar level here, patiently ridden before closing in 3 out, every chance at the last but one paced thereafter.
PEACENIK (h128 here, 119 previously) got the run of things up front and performed well, soon a few lengths clear but jumping clumsily at a few and no extra after headed at the last. He looks a chasing type and may treat larger obstacles with more respect.
ROYAL INFANTRY (h121 here, 137 previously) shaped as if all might not have been well in the end, tracking and travelling well before closing in when getting 3 out wrong, quickly beaten thereafter. His form entitled him to win this.
