front rank in far side group, ridden 3f out, weakened
towards rear in far side group, ridden and weakened from 2f out
in rear, ridden and struggling from over 2f out, soon beaten, tailed off towards finish
A big field reflecting the openness of this division with Highfield Princess elsewhere and Minzaal retired, but the winner is a superior one, the best in this race since Muhaarar in 2015, and he coped well with the return to 6f despite the pace being fair at best, the principals all a bit faster than par in the closing stages. There may have been a slight bias in this race, with stalls 11 to 18 bar Tenebrism staying centre to near side and holding sway over those towards the far side, though it was not repeated later on the card.
KINROSS (120 here and previously) has gone from strength to strength of late and delivered a polished performance to make it 4 wins in a row, tracking the pace towards the near side, making smooth headway to lead well over 1f out, ridden briefly but soon on top and under hands and heels again by the line. 6f and 7f seems to come alike to him, and that gives connections plenty of options for his future.
RUN TO FREEDOM (112 here, 108 previously) turned in a career best, hinted at once or twice previously if not of late, running on well from mid to rear. He won a couple of times at 7f earlier in his career, albeit at nothing like this level, and is worth another go at it despite bombing out when last tried.
CREATIVE FORCE (111 here, 117 previously) ran respectably, if not to quite the same level as when winning this 12 months before, or as when second in the Platinum Jubilee at this course and distance earlier in the campaign, his infrequent appearances in 2022 suggesting things have perhaps not been plain sailing behind the scenes. He was close up on the stand side but could not go with the winner after 2f out and just kept on. A stiff track and a good pace suits him at 6f and he is worth another go at 7f (beaten just a neck by Kinross when last tried).
ROHAAN (109 here, 115 previously) shaped better than the result, first home on the far side, and is ending the season in fine form. He was held up in rear as usual and came through strongly without getting in a blow at the 3 who beat him.
TENEBRISM (104 here, 114 previously) is running respectably, rather than better, since her Deauville win, but can be marked up a couple of lengths for this, tracking on the far side before leading there over 1f out but one paced late on, looking perfectly adept at sprinting, under these conditions at least.
VADREAM (103 here, 101 previously) ran one of her better races but is not easy to catch right, slowly away and making some late headway on the stand side.
PERFECT POWER (106 here, 115 previously) has been rather disappointing since his course and distance win in an ordinary Commonwealth Cup, again off the bridle at an early stage though keeping on.
ART POWER (98 here, 118 previously) has looked very good against inferior rivals at times but again came up short when it mattered, not even managing to measure up to his two fourths in this race previously despite a lighter campaign this time. He tracked the pace on the far side having been less quickly away than a few others, held a chance 2f out but found late on, third home on his side.
GO BEARS GO (97 here, 113 previously) was below form though shaped a bit better than that, showing good speed to lead on the far side for a long way.
KING’S LYNN (95 here, 110 previously) was always around the same place on the far side.
FRESH (93 here, 103 previously) remains in form, probably disadvantaged in being on the far side, and hampered to boot in the penultimate 1f.
NAVAL CROWN (92 here, 118 previously) is very smart on his day but seemingly not the most consistent, this a poor effort after he led the stand-side group early.
VENTURA DIAMOND (81 here, 98 previously)
BRAD THE BRIEF (83 here, 115 previously) had been off for 147 days and failed to give his running.
DOUBLE OR BUBBLE (76 here, 109 previously) was better than ever earlier in the campaign but now has 2 poor efforts next to her name.
GULLIVER (69 here, 93? previously)
GARRUS (68 here, 112 previously)
CASTLE STAR (0 here, 109? previously)
