Roscommon Course Guide

A right-handed oval of nearly one and a quarter miles with a run-in of three and a half furlongs. The turns are sharp but it is essentially a fair track.

Roscommon is a quick and sharp track, but it rides well. In general, it suits those that have the pace to get prominent. The draw isn’t a major issue over the shorter trips as they have plenty of time to sort themselves out. There is a steady rise up to the finish, but I would sooner describe it as a speed track than a testing one.

A right-handed, rectangular track of around a mile and a quarter in extent. The course is generally flat, though the home straight of over three furlongs is more undulating. The turns are sharp and the course favours the handier type of horse. There are five easy fences to a circuit with a run-in of around 200 yards.

Certainly one of the nicest summer jumping tracks in the country. It’s fair, you don’t come across many hard-luck stories there and there is no great positional bias. The bends are quite sharp, the second-last bend being the trickiest. The fences are some of the nicest in the country, they ride very well.
